Location:                    Owen Sound (in person’s home and community)

 Hours:                        40 hours a week. Flexibility is required to work days, evenings and weekends

 Salary Range:          $21.31 an hour 

Position Overview 

The successful applicant will be a part of a team that will provide services aimed at maximizing health and safety and personal fulfilment of person diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) with the expectation to enhance his quality of life.   

 

Qualifications: 

  • Completion of Developmental Service Worker Diploma from a recognized Community College or University (or equivalent).
  • One year of related experience supporting persons diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, who exhibits challenging behaviour.
  • Must have the ability to complete the NVCI certification as well as perform the required physical techniques. Training will be provided.
  • Requires certification in First Aid and CPR. 

 Knowledge and skills necessary:  

  • Solid communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team.
  • Demonstrated flexibility, creativity and sound judgment.
  • Must have the ability to physically support person with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Able to maintain stamina and performance under continuing stress, and to act effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to consistently display determination, self-discipline and commitment in spite of setbacks.
  • Provide solutions to barriers impacting achievement of quality of life. Participate to ensure Personal Outcomes for persons are met as defined by the person and family.
  • Consistently follow Behavioural and Crisis Protocols as documented and an understanding of Applied Behavioural Analysis
  • Persists with difficult tasks. Manages own stress effectively.
  • Resilience: Able to stick with tasks despite meeting frequent and/or repeated rejection and/or frustration.
  • Maintains positive demeanour and high levels of self-motivation.
  • Demonstrated willingness to collaborate effectively with others is critical to providing high levels of services to those who are supported.
  • Provide support and coaching in the areas of social skills, communication, vocation and leisure activities.
  • Have a valid driver’s license and use of a vehicle.
